Test Engineers Needed

The Renewable Industry Needs Test Engineers.

Changes to G99 and G100 ENA Recommendations are creating a growing requirement for engineers who understand relay testing, Loss of Mains protection and modern G99 witness testing.

Why It Matters

Why Is G99 Mains Protection Important?

The power generation landscape has seen a dramatic change over recent years.

Instead of relying on a relatively small number of high-capacity power stations, we are turning towards a much larger number of low-capacity generators. Wind farms, photovoltaic solar sites and hydroelectric plants are replacing coal and oil power stations.

In 2017, renewable sources generated 30% of the UK's energy.

Growing Requirement

The Renewable Industry Needs Test Engineers.

With the change from G59/3-4 to the new G99 and G100 ENA Recommendations there is going to be a massive requirement for DNO Test Engineers in the coming years.

The fact is, there are going to be several alterations to the G99 recommendations. The main change will require every SSEG under the output of 5 Meg to be re-tested, so the system can use ROCOF instead of Vector Shift for the Loss of Mains protection.

This will also mean that many thousands of systems controlled by older relays which only give Vector Shift Protection for Loss of Mains will need replacing.

Training Pathway

From Electrical Background to G99 Test Engineer.

The training is designed around the relay knowledge and practical understanding required to prepare engineers for G99 witness testing work.

01

Electrical Background

Suitable for engineers already in the industry and people entering from an electrical background.

02

Relay Training

Become conversant with the relay being refitted, reset or tested.

03

G99 Test Engineer Course

Develop practical knowledge of modern G99 witness testing and Loss of Mains protection.

04

Contractor Registration

Prepare to register as a contractor and begin developing testing opportunities.

Practical Support

We Know This Isn't an Easy Step Into the Industry.

We are mindful that for clients who are new to this industry, this upgrade to your knowledge will not be easy, but we will help all we can so you can get registered on the Contractors list, as we have done.

Six Reasons

Why Undertake the G99 Test Engineer Course?

Six reasons from the supplied page content for electrical contractors and engineers considering G99 witness testing.

01

Gain a New Income Stream

Develop another specialist engineering service that can complement your existing electrical work.

02

A Growing Number of Tests

The supplied information states that the number of tests being carried out on SSEG systems is increasing and could involve as many as 50,000 systems.

03

Demand for Test Engineers

The page states that there are not enough test engineers to cope with the growing requirement for this work.

04

Specialist ROCOF Knowledge

The supplied content says only a limited number of engineers are currently capable of carrying out the latest G99 witness test using ROCOF instead of Vector Shift.

05

Work With Forward-Thinking Companies

G99 witness testing can bring engineers into contact with companies working with SSEG systems throughout the UK.

06

Financial Opportunity

The supplied page content states a charge of £650 plus travel and VAT for a test, while some testers charge £800 for each test.

Limited Course Capacity

Small Groups. Practical Training. Pre-Booking Matters.

The supplied information states that Test Engineer Training Courses are being run at the rate of one per month for the next six months.

Only four clients are taken on each course, so anyone interested in developing this new income stream is encouraged to pre-book.
